Situated in central Kentucky, Canton Cooperage is in the heart of the U.S. white oak forests.
Canton Cooperage took advantage of these resources and began producing barrels in 1983
In 1998 Canton Wood Products introduced a new division by the name of XTRAOAK. Canton Wood Products has been providing top quality oak alternatives to the wine industry worldwide for more than 25 years; so we decided to give our oak alternatives an identity of their own, XTRAOAK.
The primary use of oak alternative products is the imparting of natural oak aromas and flavors to wine and providing an economical and convenient option to traditional barrel treatments. Also, many wine producers are realizing new and exciting uses for oak alternatives. These include the use of oak products during red fermentation (for stabilizing color, softening mouth feel, and moderating vegetal characters) and the use of alternatives to extend and enhance the useful life of neutral barrels.
Oak alternatives come in many forms and many possible applications.
